Psy's 'Oppa Gangnam Style' overtakes 'Call Me Maybe'

"Gangnam Style"single from Psy, a South Korean rapper now overtook Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" in terms of YouTube views based from the date it was uploaded. "Gangnam Style" has been viewed over 94 million times as of this writing and has reached the number one (1) position on the YouTube Top 100 Music Videos during the last week of August 2012.

Oppa Gangnam Style is very viral in the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook since it was uploaded on Youtube last July 15, 2012 by . In Twitter Philippines alone, Gangnam Style related topics always emerge on top of trending topics. Celebrities also create their version and have dance it on national television. Facebook share continue to rise each day.

Based from Google Insight for Search data for Philippines, Oppa Gangnam Style, gangnam and gangnam style are among the rising searches for the last seven days. Filippinos are also obsessed with the Gangnam style.

It has been featured in CNN and Bloomberg, mentioned by numerous celebrities, and has also led to various user-generated parodies and reaction videos from all over the world.

According to the German national daily newspaper Die Welt, "Gangnam Style" is spreading like a "Lauffeuer" (wildfire), and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation writes that millions around the globe have become "obsessed". "Gangnam Style" is widely praised for its humour, catchy rhythm as well as Psy's unusual dance moves that have introduced many people to K-pop.


"Gangnam Style" is a Korean language colloquialism that refers to a luxurious lifestyle associated with the Gangnam district,an affluent and trendy area of Seoul. The music video depicts Psy dancing at various locations in Gangnam.The song is about "the perfect girlfriend who knows when to be refined and when to get wild."
